Our Story
Zac and Cheryl first saw the old Davis Piano sign in a dusty window on Ouachita Avenue soon after moving to Hot Springs in 2003. Inside, they met Joe Davis - a piano tuner and repairman surrounded by an incredible collection of antique musical oddities. When Joe retired for the last time, Zac and Cheryl bought the building with all the treasures and potential and musical history included. At the time, Zac and Cheryl were central Arkansas's first-call Tuba-Accordion Duo, squeezing their high-energy act onto the stage at the BrauHaus and spending summers touring the country with their kids. Playing float trips and circus tours kept them busy while they hatched a plan to get off the road and get their kids grown. Cue the polka music: they partnered with Low Key Arts to build KUHS-LP 102.5 FM, and Hot Springs' solar-powered community radio went on the air in 2015. They transformed the rest of the building into SOZB (pronounced Squeeze Box), repurposing Joe's relics as structure and decoration in a meticulous historic renovation. (Yes, the tin ceiling is original!) The result was a hand-crafted home for pizza, beer, and community- one that quickly became a cornerstone of the Hot Springs food scene. Zac and Cheryl believe that every detail matters, even the ones you can't see. Their goal is providing excellent ingredients, recipes, and service, ensuring that SOZB will continue to be a unique and welcoming place to eat, drink, and socialize in Hot Springs.
